Joao Ponces de Carvalho has joined as the International Faculty at the Asian Academy of Film & Television in Noida, India.
The talented Portuguese film director is an avid photographer too. He went to Lisbon Classic University, for a Masters in History, specialty, Arts History. While pursuing poetry writing, he found photography as another way to express himself to the world. He started taking still pictures and became a publicity photographer by the age of 17. He has published a book on photography which has been widely acclaimed. Later on he was attracted to Cinema and made his first documentary film at the age of 22 which was one of the first TV programs to represent Portugal in MIPCOM, Cannes, 1980.
With a long career of more than 40 successful films behind him, mostly for Portuguese television, Joao Ponces de Carvalho then specialized in underwater filming and photography. He believes that his work through his photographs and films is not mere means of communication, but a medium of transmitting his feelings and sensations with them, through the use of shapes, movements, colours and sounds. His fascination with the Mother Nature and the Sea has inspired him to direct and shoot the SEVEN SEAS international documentary on underwater marine life.
