Addressing
the students of Asian Academy of Film &
TV the great showman of Indian film
industry Boney Kapoor advised them to focus
on their chosen field of creative work with
perseverance take things in their stride
and be patient. The renowned film producer
who is a member of the academic council of
the academy was there to discuss training
related matters with the Director Prof. Sandeep
Marwah. Deftly fielding the questions put
to him Boney Kapoor said that largely
due to satellite television channels
todays audience is very demanding and cant
be taken for granted. Conceding that presently
there are greater opportunities to work
he added that the modern film and television
professionals have to be well prepared to
face the challenges of a fast changing environment
in the entertainment industry. Boney Kapoor
said that audience acceptance of screen presentation
is uppermost in his mind while looking at
the story line or script of a film. Success
and failures are a part of growing and everyone
including a filmmaker has his ups and downs
he said. Describing competitiveness as a natural
feeling he pointed out that nothing
worthwhile in life is achieved easily. Boney
Kapoor said that films and television presentations
are essentially the same and shall continue
to coexist. Mistaken by a foreign student
as a film star of yesteryear Boney Kapoor
remarked in a lighter vein that a film school
like AAFT did not exist where he could receive
training for acting when he was young like
him and therefore he had to move
into film production department. He informed
that the music of his latest film Khushi which
will be released in January next year
has just been launched. On this occasion Boney
Kapoor also formally released a book on film
and television production published by the
documentation division of the academy. |

SHOULD STRENGTHEN UNITY OF THE NATION
H.D. DEVE GOWDA
Unhappy
with the attempts of the political and religious
leaders to divide the society the honble
former prime minister of India Shri H.D. Deve
Gowda urged the print and electronic media
professional to try and unite the Indian society
through their work. He was delivering valedictory
to the students of Asian Academy Of Film &
TV. Pointing out to the unique power of the
films and television to influence even the
illiterate the honble former prime
minister said these two media must be used
with utmost care. Shri H.D. Deve Gowda said
that all religious prescribe the correct way
of life and preach toleident and any competition
between them is incorrect and unfair . Commending
the outstanding work being done by Asian Academy
of Film & TV in the field of media education
and training the honble former
prime minister remarked that Prof. Sandeep
Marwah indeed deserves national recognition.
Speaking on this occassion the former
chief election commission of India Dr. GVG
Krishnamurty said that it is unethical to
play the religious regional cast
or language card which tend to divide the
society under any pretext. Describing
television as a hard taskmaster which does
not permit any mistake to be committed by
anyone the former secretary ministry
of information and broadcasting Mr.
P. Murari who was the guest of honour
called upon the television journalist to maintain
highest professional integrity and standard
. Major General Kailash Chander and Sahara
media groups Dr. Aziz Burney also addressed

HAVE DONE COMMENDABLE WORK IN UNITING THE
COUNTRY DR. B. SATYANARAYAN REDDY
Stating
that outsiders know India through Indian films
former governor of several states including
UP Dr. B. Satyanarayan Reddy acknowledged
the commendable contribution of films in uniting
the country. The honble former governor
was addressing the students after formally
inaugurating the new session of Asian Academy
Of Film & TV. Emphasising the importance
of systematic training in the art and craft
of screen presentation Dr. Reddy urged
the filmmakers to be a good human being too.
Speaking on this occasion the president of
the PHD Chambers of Commerce & Industry
Mr. P.K. Jain said beside being the medium
of knowledge sharing and influencing the society
films are indeed a product which can be a
potential source of earning the foreign exchange.Describing
films as an ambassador of the country
he said that people abroad associate India
with Raj Kapoor and Satyajit Ray. Conceding
the need for modifying the archaic film taxation
policy of the states Mr. Jain announced
that it is proposed to add the film chapter
to PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
The president of the All Indian Human Rights
Association Mr. M.U. Dua also addressed the

STAR SHILPA SHETTY PATRONISES AAFT
Tall
and lissom film star Shilpa Shetty said that
like for any other performing art training
is also necessary for the screen presentation.
The heart throb of millions Shilpa Shetty
has accepted the request of Prof. Sandeep
Marwah to give Asian Academy of Film &
TV the benefit of her long experience in the
film world. Talented Shilpa Shetty has a remarkable
screen presence and a mystical influence over
the audience. Shilpa Shettys performance
in her recent feature film Rishtey is indeed
superb. She expressed her satisfaction over
the AAFTs programme for the training
of an actor and made few constructive suggestions
in this regard. Shilpa Shetty was pleased
to learn that AAFT alumni are now associated
with almost all film & TV production houses
and satellite television channels in India.
Conceding that the road to stardom is a long
one she remarked that the audience acceptance
of performing artist is more often than not
a matter of luck. Ups and downs in career
of a professional should be taken in their
stride she added. Referring to the technological
developments she said that digital cinema
is now a practical reality and the Internet
has changed the way we live and work. Obviously
she was hinting at the ever-increasing application
of computers in the show business. |

MAKING IS A PASSION - SAMARJEET DAS GUPTA
Sharing
his views concerns and experiences in
the industry the distinguished IAF fighter
pilot turned filmmaker Samarjeet Das Gupta
impressed upon the would be filmmakers the
importance of business aspects of filmmaking.
The producer/director of the feature film
Pyar Ki Dhun made with four AAFT alumni Swati
Hena Anita and Nicolous was addressing
the students of Asian Academy of Film &
TV. He said that the knowledge of art and
craft of screen presentation is absolutely
necessary before embarking upon making of
films. Stating that filmmaking is much more
than just making use of techniques he
said that a film professional has to be passionate
about his or her work. Samarjeet Das Gupta
disclosed that the production work of his
next two feature films one with Shabana
Azmi and another with Amitabh Bachchan in
the lead roles together with AAFT alumni Hena
& Swati will begin very shortly.
Later Prof. Sandeep Marwah honoured the talented
film producer director with the prestigious
life membership of International Film &
Television Club. Internationally renowned
and the noted exponent of Hindustani classical
music Mrs. Sumitra Guha appealed to the filmmakers
to try and preserve the Indian classical music
through their work of art. United Nations
expert Timo Niklas-Salminen also addressed
the students on the potentials of the Indian
cultural heritage. |

AAFT TRAINING BEGINS THE MOMENT YOU ENTER
39th
batch of trainees commenced from 3rd April
2003. Registrations over the batch was
immediately addressed by all the faculty members
of the Academy. A lively entertainment program
followed next by the afternoon. The show was
organized by the renowned management professional;
T S Bedi who is shaping out to be a
popular singer of Northern India. The singer
and his team of accompanists on a three piece
orchestra including a key board an octopad
and a tabla enjoyed their performance as much
as all the foot tapping members of the audience
clapping to each singular performance of bhajan
old melodies from the Hindi movies and some
classics from the old Punjabi folklore. The
function was well attended by most of the
prominent citizens of Noida. Chief guest of
the function was the Chairman of the All India
Anti Terrorist Front Sardar M S Bitta
who later presented the Academy awards to
the renowned architect of India Arun
Varmani and to the senior journalist from
the Hindi national daily Dainik Jagran
Mohammed Azad. Addressing the audience chief
guest M S Bitta emphasised on the role of
that the Media had to play especially in a
large country like India where a majority
of its illiterate populace tended to believe
whatever media would project to them. Varmani
who had been instrumental in designing the
first phase of the Marwah Studio turned nostalgic
of his memories from the second half of the
eighties recalling the efforts put in by Prof.
Sandeep Marwah in designing the whole film
city during that period. Mohammed Azad is
a very popular and a veteran journalist from
the Hindi media in Noida. Speaking on the
occasion Azad gave all the credit to
Prof. Sandeep Marwah for bringing Noida to
the international map of cine world. |

The
39th training session of the AAFT was inaugurated
by the former Union Minister Arif Mohammad
Khan and also formally released a book titled
Abhinay penned by Prof Sandeep Marwah on this
occasion. Addressing the students and the
other invitees the former minister said
that the ongoing war against Iraq was a one
sided affair and against the norms of humanity.
Adding that India had more than a hundred
TV channels today and the kind of programs
to be shown were to be decided the responsible
representatives from the media. Laxmi Narayan
Goel Director Zee Telefilms said that
India was far ahead of others in the field
of media and broadcasting. Speaking further
he added that this required large number of
trained reporters cameramen and directors
and that this need could be fulfilled by best
training institutes alone. He also said that
he was feeling proud to address the students
of such a world renowned institute as AAFT
from super film stars and directors would
surely reach the world of cinema. He also
said that he had no words to describe the
contribution made by Prof. Sandeep Marwah.
Suparna Diwan suggested to the students to
refrain from using the synthetic chemicals
for make up but use only the natural resources
for the human body itself was a factory of
its own for this purpose. Director MTV Aman
Mangat suggested to explore further opportunities
to make programs of an international quality. |

WORKSHOP
FOR THE DEPRIVED KIDS AT AAFT
A
program cum workshop of music and dance was
organized for the deprived children of the
city at AAFT recently under the guidance of
its Director Prof. Sandeep Marwah. The objective
was to bring the children of the lesser privileged
into the mainstream of society. Addressing
the mammoth gathering assembled on the occasion
Minister for Irrigation Government of
UP Nawab Singh Nagar said that the commendable
and exemplary work being done by the AAFT
for the deprived children was indeed praiseworthy.
He also added that despite having been surrounded
all the time in the world of glamour offered
by the Electronic media remaining actively
involved in the well being of the downtrodden
on the part of Prof. Sandeep Marwah was a
unique example by itself. Describing Prof.
Sandeep Marwah as the pride of the Noida city
Nagar announced that he would shortly be requesting
the Honourable President of India to confer
an award upon him soon. Former chief secretary
to the Government of UP Brijendra Sahai
described Prof. Marwahs effort as a
historic step in this direction. Organizer
of the workshop Joti Shrivastava said that
art was not a private property of a section
of the society and if the children belonging
to the under privileged classes could be encouraged
properly starting results could be experienced.
Speaking further she added that the state
administration was extending all its help
in deputing the children trained though this
workshop at various National festivals and
programs of similar prominence. The large
contingent of the children present on the
occasion presented a fascinating program of
music towards the end that won instant applause
from the large audience. |

WIGS CREW OF ALLWYN KALICHARAN THRONG
AAFT
Coinciding
with the auspicious ceremony of launch and
the mahurat shot of Tutu Sharmas forthcoming
film Allwyn Kalicharan at the film city in
Noida its entire crew visited the Asian
Academy of Film & Television the Marwah
Studios recently. The crew was accompanied
by other dignitaries including Member of Parliament
Amar Singh renowned producer Boney Kapoor
eminent director Satish Kaushik for blessing
the launch with their greetings and best wishes.
The film casts the never ageing versatile
national award winner actor Anil Kapoor in
the lead role. Looking charming and fresh
Anil Kapoor turned up exactly in the same
get up as he is to be seen in this movie.
Tutu Sharma was accompanied by his glamorous
better half Padmini Kohlapuri a renowned
actress of the time taking charge of
the presentations too. Tejaswani Kohlapuri
was the other star present on the occasion.
Padmini and Tutu Sharma lauded the efforts
of Prof. Sandeep Marwah for the gradual progress
of the film city of Noida adding that it was
largely due to the initial hard-work put in
by Prof. Marwah that it had become possible
to shooting movies in this film City. Prof.
Marwah expressed his happiness over the fact
that every big director was getting attracted
towards the film city of Noida for availability
of an excellent environment world class
shooting facilities and proximity to capturing
exotic landscapes. Young director of the film
Anurag Kashyap said the opportunity to shooting
this movie in Delhi the place of his birth
and upbringing was like a long cherished dream
coming true for him. After meeting the students
of the AAFT Kashyap complimented Prof.
Marwah for the potential to discover perfect
talent for the movies from this academy. He
also announced that his movie would be released
by Nov. 26 2003. |

FINE ARTS AAFT GIVES BIRTH TO AAFA
NOW
Maintaining
what can possibly be the highest tutor to
