MOVIES ARE POPULAR IN TURKMENISTAN
Speaking
at the function held at Asian Academy of Film
& Television to formally release the documentary
The Chord of Friendship produced
and directed by Gulshan Dang. The former member
of parliament, follower of Mahatma Gandhi
& Vinoba Bhave and the President of Indo-Turkmenistan
Forum, Ms. Nirmala Deshpande asked the students
to make use of the power of films to bring
the people of the world closer together and
for spreading the message of peaceful co-existence.
She mentioned that Indian films and film stars
are extremely popular in Turkmenistan. Describing
Gulshan Dang - an alumnus of AAFT - as a talented
and promising filmmaker, Prof. Sandeep Marwah
said that his latest documentary film is indeed
a piece of professional work. In her brief
address the cultural counselor, Embassy of
Turkmenistan, Dr. Tchinar Rustamova recalled
800 years old relations between India and
her country. She mentioned that the renowned
poet Abdur Rahim Khankhana was the son of
great Turkmen statesman, warrior and mentor
of mughul emperor Akbar - Bairam Khan. She
diseclosed that Gulshan Dangs documentary
has been supported by Indo-Turkmenistan Forum
as part of the ongoing celebration of the
50th anniversary of Bairam Khan. She thanked
the government and people of India for allowing
her country to access the Indian archives
for valuable historical facts about Turkmenistan.
Sharing his thoughts with the students, the
former Indian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Dr.
Virendra Verma said that love is gods
gift to mankind and that the spirit of mutual
love and respect has to be inculcated. He
advised the students to be honest, truthful,
hardworking and to avoid attempting short
cuts to success. Dr. Sharma mentioned that
Gulshan Dangs documentary is indeed
the proof of effectiveness of the education
and training being imparted at AAFT. |

AUSTRALIAN
DOCUMENTARY MAKER IN FILM CITY
The
Australian documentary film producer - director
of Indian Origin Mr. Satish Rai who is in
India in connection with the shooting of a
documentary film on Indians settled overseas
was in Asian Academy of Film & Television.
He was in the Noida Film City after completing
his work in Gorakhpur and Ghaziabad districts.
Ms.Asha Singh a senator from Fiji Island who
is playing an important role in documentary
,accompained the producer - director.While
welcoming the guests ,the director of AAFT,Sandeep
Marwah asked the students to keep the international
viewers in mind while making films in the
time to come .Describing the film language
as universal,Ms. Asha Singh said that Indian
movies are extremely popular even amongst
those of her countrymen who do not understand
Hindi.Answering complex questions relating
to Film making ,the versatile film maker from
Australia said that the story is all important
to a film.He mentioned that only 20-25 films
are produced annually in his country. Mr.
Satish Rai was hopeful that Indian films will
soon become popular in Australia too. Both
Ms.Asha Singh and Mr. Satish Rai accepted
the membership of the International Film &
television Research Centre and Promised to
extend their patronage to Asian Academy of

INDUSTRY SHORT OF TRAINED PROFESSIONALS MADAN
LAL KHURANA
The
former Chief Minister of Delhi and a sitting
member of lok Sabha Madan Lal Khurana visited
Asian Academy of Film & Television to
familiarise himself with the working of the
institute.The distinguished visitor took keen
interest in the training opportunity offered
by the institute and gave valuable suggestions
about training related matters to prof.Sandeep
Marwah. Mr Khurana was greatly impressed by
the excellent work being done by the institute
in the field of media education and training
and in lending support to the film and television
industries.He lamented that film & TV
Institute of India,once a premier film school
has fallen on bad days and remarked that Asian
Academy of Film & TV has indeed succeeded
where others have failed. |

INITIATIVE TO ESTABLISH DOLLYWOOD
Addressing
the students of Asian Academy of Film &
Television,the director of the forthcoming
star studded wholesome family entertainer
Bharat Bhagya Vidhata,Osho Raja said it is
his earnest desire that film & television
industry, should thrive in the national capital
region. Welcoming this creative genius who
has been into film making for three decades
after graduating from Film & TV institute
of India, the director AAFT Prof. Sandeep
Marwah promised full support to him in realising
his dream .Osho Raja disclosed that this feature
film will be shot in and around Delhi and
that history of some sort will be created
when its Muhurat shot is taken at Delhi in
the near future.He said that Shatrughan Sinha
and Jaya Prada both Raja Sabha members - have
agreed to play the lead role in this film.He
pointed out that it is the responsibility
of the film maker to avoid stupidity,bad taste,distortion
of facts and false education in his work.osho

NEED TO SPEND CRORES ON A FILM MUZAFFAR ALI
The
creative genius Muzaffar Ali was overwhelmed
when he was given standing ovation by the
students of Asian Academy of Film & TV
on the mention of his outstanding film Umrao
Jan. Conceding that film is a difficult medium
to understand and to control , he disapproved
the practice of investing astronomical sums
on the production of films. Describing the
current media scene as extremely good he said
that film & television software market
belongs to the artistes.He advised the students
to be above all a good human being for producing
good films and television programmes.Describing
the Film Censor Board as a Policeman trying
to control chaotic traffic, he told them that
freedom for expression also has its limits.
He admitted that the dictates of market forces
and rank commercialisation have resulted in
production of irrelevant films.He urged the
students to use the power of this medium for
spreading the message of mutual respect love
and honesty.Muzaffar Ali said trained and
competent Indian professional should now target
overseas markets.Earlier welcoming the distiguished
guest at the inaugural of the thirtieth session
of the academy its Director Prof. Sandeep
Marwah mentioned that academy has now crossed
the frontiers of Asian and it now attracts
students from other continents as well.Noida
a decade back,mentioned that he is happy to
find the Film City of North is doing well

Delivering
valedictory address to the students of the
twenty-ninth batch of Asian Academy of Film
& TV,veteran Mass communication expert
and formerly Chairman of Indian Institute
of Mass communication Mr. P. Murari, said
that the massive explosion of the media and
globalisation of economy have provided unprecedented
opportunity to talented and dedicated professional.
He added that direct to home telecasts in
KU band will further revolutionalise television
viewing.Pointing out that human resource is
the prime mover in any endeavour,he urged
the film & television professionals to
harness the power of the media only for the
good of the mankind.He advised them to protect
their credibility while practising television
journalism.Mr. P. Murari said that he is happy
to note the enviable reputation being enjoyed
by the academy in the field of media education
and training. Earlier welcoming the distinguished
guests, the Director prof. Sandeep Marwah
recalled the active role played by Mr . P.
Murari in helping the govt,to declare film
making as an industry two years ago .He hoped
that this step will help break the underworld-industry
nexus.Prof. Sandeep Marwah also mentioned
that AAFT is now known internationally.Later
addressing the gathering the Executive Director
of Jalandhar based Management and Industrial
Development Institute Dr H.K. Singh advised
the students that beside acquiring skills
for doing their work they should also learn
to lead a clean life.He emphasised the importance
of enjoying Academy Art Awards were also presented
on this occasion to forty seven artists who
has participated in the Exibition of Paintings
organised jointly by AAFT,MEC.Art Gallery

TANDON LAUNCHES NEW COURSE AT AAFT
Asian
Academy of Film & TV recently played host
to the talented and beautiful actress Raveena
Tandon.Congratulating the students on joining
this World renowned institute for learning
the art and craft of film making, she welcomed
them to the exciting world of cinema. Answering
questions put to her by the students she said
that systematic training is necessary for
all including the gifted persons for making
a mark in the field of performing arts. She
pointed out that even the best of the raw
diamond needs cutting and polishing before
use.Asked about her preference for acting
in commercial or art films,Raveena Tandon
said that she does not believe in categorising
the films in this manner.She said that there
are only good films and bad films and obviously
her prefence is for acting in the good ones
. Formally launching academy s new course
in Film Fashion & Costume Designing,Raveena
Tandon hoped that it would fulfil the longstanding
need of training in this area of specialisation.Raveena
Tandon also agreed to be on the Board of Asian
Academy of Film & Television and promised
all possible support of Prof. Sandeep Marwah
is his work . The thirty first session of
the academy will commence on 3rd April 2001.

Festival
Of Israeli Student Films At AAFT
The
ambassador of Israel in India, His Excellency
David Aphek formally inaugurated the first
ever festival of Israeli Student Films at
Asian Academy of Film & Television.Welcoming
the ambassador and Mr. Akiva Tevet, Head of
the Film Department at Camera Obscura School
of Art , Prof. Sandeep Marwah thanked them
for arranging the screening of the films exclusively
for the students of AAFT and said this event
has great educational value for the would
be film makers.Addressing the students His
Excellency David Aphek who had personally
supervised the relief provided by his country
to the victims of the earthquake at Bhuj,
was visibly moved when he asked all present
to observe silence as a mark of respect to
the departed souls.Continuing with his address,
the ambassador said it was indeed difficult
for him to switch his mind from disaster to
film art.He, however, felt that the human
suffering in Gujrat will surely provide subject
matter for films.His Excellency David Aphek
was of provides the right kind of environment
to the film makers for their work. Mr.Akiva
Tevet who had come from Israel to interact
with the students of AAFT, said that today
s film makers emerge from film schools and
are better educated than their predecessors.
He was of the view that film school is the
place to discover and to nurture one
s artistic potential. Mr. Akiva Tevet said
the some of the makers of films brought by
him are extremely talented and they posses
the necessary potential to earn recognition
in the film world.the screening of films followed

Formally
launching the new course - FILM FASHION &
COSTUME DESIGNING of Asian Academy of Film
& Television which will be conducted from
April 2001, the former minister of Haryana
Krishna Murari Huda complimented Prof. Sandeep
Marwah for recognising the need of trained
professionals in this field of specialisation
and that these subjected deserve serious academic
study.He said that dressing up and the make
up of the artistes are important and the overall
look of a film and television presentation.The
hon ble former minister further added
that AAFT is perhaps one of the few film schools
in the world which offer such a unique training
course.Under the glare of lights the well
known journalist and the editor of Urdu Rashtriya
Sahara Aziz Burney sounded the clapper to
give the mahurat shot of the television serial
Roshni currently under production
at Marwah studios in the Noida Film City.This
serial is being for produced Doordarshan by
Col. Narjit Behl, Chairman,Harmony a trust
devoted to serve people affected by militancy
and terrorism and directed by Prof. Sandeep
Marwah.A number of AAFT alumni are actively
associated with the production of this television
serial which deals with the problem created
due to militancy in Kashmir Valley. |

of millions of television viewers Ruby Bhatia
has just completed the hundredth episode of

INDIA .This Mumbai based video jockey
and model comes to Noida Film City every week
for recordings.Ruby Bhatia recently told Prof.
Sandeep Marwah that systematic training in
acting and presentation is a must for sustaining
numerous satellite television channels operating
in the country.Students of AAFT are greatly
impressed by the beautiful, tall, slim and
well-groomed Ruby Bhatia in her new avatar
as an anchorperson.With her strong screen
presence Ruby Bhatia is indeed a prize catch

and "Jungle" was recently invited
by Prof. Sandeep Marwah to visit Asian Academy
of Film & Television. Speaking to the
students of the academy on this occasion,
the techniques should be harnessed for generating
images and sound through which the filmmaker
intends to touch the heart and move the soul
of the viewers. But the tools and the techniques
must not affect the artistic expression of
the creative mind. He advised the would be
filmmakers to keep experimenting with the
style of story telling with images and sound
as this is the only way to sustain film making. |
