WELSH TRADE INTERNATIONAL OFFICIAL AT UNIVERSITY OF MEDIA ARTS

University of Media Arts in the national capital region recently played host to Ms. Larry Wilson who was leading a high powered mission sent by Welsh Assembly Government to establish alliances between companies in the Wales region of the United Kingdom and their counterparts in India. She held detailed discussions on matters relating to higher education in the Wales region and India with Vice Chancellor of University of Media Arts Prof. Sandeep Marwah. The visiting dignitary went round the facilities being provided by Asian Business School of the university to the students of the business management and to the media processionals in the making by Asian School of Media Studies.

PRESERVE CULTURAL HERITAGE THROUGH WORKS OF ART - GENERAL K.M SETH

In his thought provoking address to the students of University of Media Arts' Study Centre at Noida, His Excellency Lt. Gen. K.M. Seth, PVSM, AVSM, Governor of Chhattisgarh called upon the artists to try and preserve the rich Indian cultural heritage through their work.Nature's bounty to Chhattisgarh region, the amazing Chitrakot fall and the 500 feet deep natural cave in Bastar area could be used to provide a wonderful setting for the movies, the Hon'ble Governor added. He complemented, Prof. Sandeep Marwah and Mr. Boney Kapoor for taking the initiative to set up an institution of higher learning which will focus mainly on media studies.

General K.M. Seth mentioned that in order to ensure full academic freedom to the Chancellor, the state has decided that in his capacity as the visitor, the Governor will be only a patron of the private universities. Former union minister and governor of several states Bhishma Narain Singh pointed out to the commendableworked done by the Saints, Armed forces and Cinema in propagating and promotion Hindi languages in the country. Sharing his thoughts with the students, the former governor UP Mr. Romesh Bhandari urged that the power of media should not be misused to hurt the sentiments of an individual or a section of the society. The Chancellor of University of Media Arts Mr. Boney Kapoor also addressed the students on this occasion.

PARLIAMENTARIANS FROM FINLAND IN NOIDA FILM CITY

In a rare gesture, the Parliamentary Committee For Education and Science of Finland included a visit to the Noida Film City located film school - Asian Academy of Film & TV - in their Indian itinerary, to get an overview of filmmaking in this country. Briefing the distinguished visitor on the technical, business and artistic angles of Indian filmmaking, director of the academy Prof. Sandeep Marwah offered to persuade the Bollywood film producers to shoot their film in Finland. He pointed out that with a view to promoting filmmaking in the country, three prominent Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry have established Entertainment Committee within their folds. The Chairperson of the Committee of Finnish Parliamentarians Ms. Maija Rask evinced great interest in the facilities for film and television production at Noida Film City and promised to explore the possibility of a joint Indo-Finnish film production. Ms. Jaina Anderson, Ms. Eva Biaudet, Ms. Maija Perho, Mr. Iivo Polvi, Ms. Irja Tulonen, Mr. Matti Saarinen and Ms. Pirkko Peltomo were the other members of the team of Finnish Parliamentarians.
AUSTRALIAN FILM MAKER IN NOIDA FILM CITY

The first and the only Australian filmmaker of Indian origin Satish Rai stated that filmmaking is beyond cinematography, the sound track and acting. It is like creating symphony out of so many instruments put in a particular chord. It is the filmmaker who decides the chord according to his understanding of the audience. He was invited by the International Film & Television Research Centre to share his experience of acting, directing and producing films in Australia, with the students of Asian Academy of Film & TV. Satish Rai is currently in India to shoot a film. Addressing the students of the Academy he said that the film industry in Australia is in a nascent stage and it offers great opportunity for producing films and television programs. He disclosed that he is also looking for a suitable cast in India for his feature film about Indians who had migrated several centuries ago to the Fiji Island, Surinam and Trinidad Tobago etc. Satish Rai extended an invitation through the co-chairman of the Entertainment Committee of PHD Chambers of Commerce & Industry Sandeep Marwah to the Indian filmmakers to shoot their film in Australia. He offered all possible help and support of to the Indian filmmakers in Australia. On this occasion Satish Rai also accepted the life membership of the International Film & Television Research Centre.
RAJ KAPOOR IS MY ROLE MODEL-SANJAY KAPOOR

The well known cine artist Sanjay Kapoor said that the main purpose of making a film is to entertain the viewers by narrating a visually powerful story. He was addressing the students after formally inaugurating the 2004-05 session of 'University of Media Arts' Asian School of Media Studies' at Noida. Answering questions put to him Sanjay Kapoor said that like for any other human endeavour proper education and systematic training is necessary for filmmaking. Defending the film professionals who may try to induct and promote their kith and kin into the film industry, he said that what really matters in the film industry are one's own technical competence, hard work and talent and not a god father. Responding to a comment by a member of the audience about his role in his latest film Julie, Sanjay Kapoor said it is the effectiveness of a role rather than anything else what is of significance to an actor. He mentioned that he is currently playing a role in feature film Anjaane, Sanjay Kapoor disclosed he is seriously toying with the idea of producing a feature film himself. On this occasion, veteran journalist Dr. Aziz Burney, well known television producer A.S. Bedi and management guru Raj Diwan also shared their thoughts with the audience. This function was followed by a weeklong retrospective of films starring Sanjay Kapoor.
AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY TO JOIN HANDS WITH UNIVERSITY OF MEDIA ARTS

The renowned Deakin University has identified the First Film University in India - the University of Media Arts - as partner in their teaching programme in the field of arts. This possibility was recently discussed in detail by Prof. Katherine Blashki, Professor of New Media Technologies of this world famous university with Vice Chancellor of University of Media Arts Prof. Sandeep Marwah. She is currently on a visit to India. Later Prof. Katherine Blashki addressed the students of Asian School of Media Studies of University of Media Arts and answered a number of questions relating to about American Cinema. She also offered to conduct a workshop on a subject relating to her area of specialisation for the students of Asian School of Media Studies in the later part of this year. Prof. Katherine Blashki was accompany by the Idian representative of Deakin University Ashini Parikh.
WHITE BLOOD RED SOIL

Ricky Mirza (Amjad A Mirza) - aims to find out what people think about undoing the Partition. White Blood Red Soil is his debut film that will investigate the causes that led to the painful division of the South Asia. The one-hour feature documentary is being shot in India, Pakistan and the UK. It will contain interviews of economists, politicians and people from various walks of life as well as using vox pops, reconstructions and archival material. White Blood Red Soil will be released in May 2005 at the Cannes Film Festival in France and also in India, Pakistan, UK and the USA.

AMERICAN FILM SOCIETY HONOUR'S " SANDEEP MARWAH"

American Film Society (AFS) has decided to honour, Sandeep Marwah, the man behind establishments such as the University of Media Arts and the Noida
Film City. New Jersey based film society will confer a citation and the award under the category "Outstanding contribution to the field of Cinema" in December this year.
Besides brain-child behind the genesis of the Noida Film City created in 1988, Marwah has been associated with many feature films and television programmes produced for more than 70 channels across the nation. He has been involved in imparting education to aspiring media professionals coming from all over the world too. Its through Institutes such as Asian Academy of Film and TV, Asian School of Journalism and Asian Academy of Fine Arts to name a few, which comes under the University of Media Arts. A veteran who holds expertise in media studies, Marwah has represented India in several film and television forums overseas.

RENOWNED ARTIST FROM ISRAEL AT MARWAH STUDIOS

Well known theatre, film and television artist Gil Alon said that art and drama are integrated into the development of a child right from the elementary school stage in Israel. He was addressing a gathering of film and television professionals at Marwah Studios on an invitation from Sandeep Marwah. Gil Alon mentioned that there are 10 Drama School and close to 2500 plays are staged annually in his country with a population which is almost sixty five percent that of New Delhi. Theatre in Israel enjoys the support of the govt., he added. Gil Alon was of the view that Israelis are creative by nature. An actor must follow the dictate of his heart and be himself while performing on the stage or facing the camera. Gil Alon was accompanied by President of Indo-Israel Friendship Association A.C. Peter and a senior diplomat from the Embassy of Israel in Delhi, Ms. Michal Weiler-Tal among others.
