PRODUCE SHORT FILMS ON DIGITAL FORMAT
The
muhurat shot of the first of twenty three
short films being produced by Asian Academy
of Film & Television was taken on Wednesday
in an impressive ceremony held at Marwah Studios.
As is well known, films and television programmes
entertain, inform and educate the masses and
exert a profound social influence. Films and
television production calls for a wide range
of crafts. The professional in this field
- the actor, cameraperson, editor and director
has master the tools of his craft and this
knowledge in best gained by practical work.
The photographic and electronic recording
methods are fast converging the digital technology
is now deeply embedded in today s film
and television production. The digital distribution
and exhibition of films is only a few years
away. Prof. Sandeep Marwah informed the distinguished
invitees to the function that AAFT encourages
and stimulates the students to sharpen skills
in their chosen filed of creative work by
making short films. These short films will
now be shot and edited in digital format with
a view to providing the students with an opportunity
to do their work with the state of the art
equipment and to prepare them of the cinema
of the new millennium, he added. Addressing
the large gathering former union minister
of state for defence Prof. Sher Singh urged
the film makers to try and remove the evil
practices prevalent in the society, through
their work. Other distinguished personalities
present on this occassion included former
chief secretary of UP Govt. Mr. Brijendra
Sahai, serving diplomat Dr. Madhup Mohta,
director of ITDC Dr. A.G. Agrawal, well know
filmmaker and television producer Mr. A.S.
Bedi, documentary film maker Mr. Arun Chadha,
president of the cable television operators
association Dr. A.K. Rastogi renowned dancers
Ms. Nalini & Ms. Kamalini and astrologer

MARWAH AT BOOK RELEASE FUNCTION
Director
of Asian Academy of Film & TV prof. Sandeep
Marwah loves to keep the company of poets,
novelists and writers and he has great respect
for the creative artists. His literary circle
is indeed quite large. He was recently guest
of honour at a glittering function organised
at the India International Centre to formally
launch the latest literary work of Dr. Ved
Prakash Vaidik Vartmaan Bharat. Prof. Sandeep
Marwah remarked on this occassion that filmmaker
consider the books an important source of
subject matter for the films. The other distinguished
personalities present on this occasion included
the former prime minister of India Mr. Chandra
Shekhar who released the book, deputy prime
minister of India Mr. L.K. Advani, union information
and broadcasting minister Mrs. Sushma Swaraj
and His Excellency Mr. Daneelal Seewoo, the
ambassador of Mauritius. |

GOOD USE OF SOCIAL IMPACT OF FILMS - L.K.
ADVANI
The
hon ble deputy prime minister of India
Mr. L.K. Advani spared his valuable time during
the festival of films on environment to know
about the progress made by Asian Academy of
Film & TV. Apparently troubled by terrorism,
insurgency and communal violence racking the
country, the hon ble deputy prime minister
advised Prof. Sandeep Marwah to motivate the
students to make films on social issues while
they are at the academy. He was of the view
that the society deserves responsive but responsible
cinema. Mr. L.K. Advani was pleased to know
that Asian Academy of Film & Television
is now self reliant in almost every respect
and it has made a mark as one of the best
training centres in the world for short term
film & television courses. The renowned
film producer and director Mr. Mahesh Bhatt
who had recently achored a number of episodes
of the television serial Amazing Science at
Marwah Studios, was also present on this occasion. |

MARWAH
ONCE AGAIN IN INTERNATIONAL FORUM
The
Indo-Turkmenistan Cultural Forum which is
affiliated to association of peoples in Asia
has nominated Prof. Sandeep Marwah as a patron
of the Forum. HE Dr. Mrs. Chinar Rustamova
Cultural Counsellor of Embassy of Turkmenistan
in India personally handed over a communication
to this effect on behalf of the people and
government of her country. Her Excellency
also presented Prof. Sandeep Marwah with the
national dress of Turkmenistan in a glittering
function held at the auditorium of Asian Academy
of Film & TV in Noida Film City. Speaking
with emotion Dr. Mrs. Chinar Rustamova recalled
in detail the 800 year old ties between India
and Turkmenistan. She also mentioned that
Indian feature films are very popular in her
country. Her Excellency Dr. Mrs. Chinar Rustamova
invited the students of academy to do shoot
their films in Turkmenistan. Speaking on this
occasion Prof. Sandeep Marwah suggested that
Indian and Turkmen filmmakers should collaborate
in film & television productions. The
ambassador of Turkmenistan in India HE Mr.
Ashir Ataev also sent his heartiest greetings
on this occasion. |

& GUILDS INTERNATIONAL GRANTS RECOGNITION
TO AAFT
Talking
note of the excellent international grade
media education and training being provided
by Asian Academy of Film & TV, the UK
s 125 year old best known awarding body for
professional qualifications city & guilds
have approved this academy as one of their
coaching and examination centers in India.
City & Guilds certificates are accepted
throughout the world as evidence of achievement
and their qualifications confirm knowledge
and skills against internationally recognised
standards. This approval implies that students
need not visit the British council for taking
city & Guilds exmination and may receive
the required help from AAFT in the preparation
for the same. The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh
is currently the President of City & Guilds.
The Board Of Directors of Asian Academy Of
Film & TV have decided to provide Coaching
for City & Guilds.Television & Video
Production and the Certificate In Media Techniques
courses at this stage. Incidentally, Director
of Asian Academy of Film & TV Prof. Sandeep
Marwah has been appointed to the role of visiting
verifier by City & Guilds. |

INDO-SUDANESE
CULTURAL FORUM FORGES AHEAD
The
ambassador of the Republic of the Sudan in
India HE Abdal Mahmood Abdal Haleem Mohammed
informed that a cultural delegation from his
country will be coming october. His Excellency
disclosed that the Indo-Sudanese Cultural
Forum will be bringing out a periodical entitled
Nile-Ganga . A festival of films
from Sudan will also be organised in the near
future, he added. The ambassador was addressing
the students of Asian Academy of Film &
TV after holding a review meeting of the Forum
with Prof. Sandeep Marwah . His Excellency
also extended his govt s invitation
to Prof. Sandeep Marwah to visit the Republic
of the Sudan. The well known Kathak exponent
Ms. Uma Sharma who was also present on this
occassion, advised the students to devote
themselves whole heartedly to the creative
work of their choice and never feel discouraged
by setbacks in the professional life. A disciple
of renowned Shambhu Maharaj, Ms. Uma Sharma
is a Protagonist of the Guru-Shishya
parampara . Govt of India had awarded
padmashree and padma vibhushan to Ms. Uma
Sharma in recognition her outstanding contribution
to the Kathak dance form. She concluded her
address by saying that excellence in any art
form could be achieved only through regular
and sustained practice namely Sadhana
. A music album - Shree Ram Katha - produced
by Marwah Studios, was also formally released
by Ms. Uma Sharma. Mr. Rahul Mittra of the
Times of India also addressed the students. |

AMBASSADOR
OF RUSSIAN FEDERATION TAKES NOTE OF AAFT
Prof.
Sandeep Marwah recently met His Excellency
Mr. Alexander M. Kadakin, ambassador of the
Russian Federation in India in connection
with the proposed festival of Russian films
at Asian Academy of Film & TV. His Excellency
was pleased to know that Asian Academy of
Film & TV routinely makes use of works
of great film makers of the world to train
the students of cinema. Prof. Sandeep Marwah
gave a detailed account of the training facilities
available at Asian Academy of Film & TV
and that the academy has trained nationals
of 36 countries of the world in the past nine
years. His Excellency Mr. Alexander M. Kadakin
promised all possible support to Prof. Sandeep
Marwah in his work and promised to visit the
academy at his earliest convenience. |

RENOWNED KATHAK DANCERS NALINI - KAMALINI
AT AAFT
Acknowledged
as celestial nymphs by the art connoisseurs
- Nalini and Kamalini - were recently invited
by Prof. Sandeep Marwah for a lecture cum
demonstrationof the traditional form Kathak.
The versatile dancing duo are the disciples
of well known Kathak Maestro and the trend
setter of temple style of Kathak dancing,
guru Jitendra Maharaj of Varanasi gharana.
Well versed in allied arts of music and literature
the sisters literally mesmerised the students
of Asian Academy of Film & TV by their
rare artistic qualities of natural expression,
grace, sweetness, clarity, perfection, refined
sensibilities and subtlety. Their deep and
pure emotiveness, artistry of immaculate footwork,
a complete understanding of Kathak dance form
and strong stage presence kept the audience
spell bound throughout the presentation. Nalini
and Kamalini have done India proud by giving
scintillating performance of this traditional
form in a number of European countries, UK
and USA. Later addressing the gathering Nalini
said that it is the enlightened alone who
can be entertained by true work of art and
called upon the students to make an in-depth
study of the art form of their choice. |

SANJAY
KAPOOR PERFORMS BRILLIANTLY IN SHAKTI
Sanjay
Kapoors intense and sincere performance
in the recently released feature film Shakti
- a remake of a Telugu film - has been liked
by one and all. Suave, stylish, educated and
talented Sanjay Kapoor has acted in a numbers
of feature films including Prem, Raja, Sirf
Tum, Chuppa Rustom, Koi Mere Dil Se Pooche
besides Shakt. Talking about his co-stars
in feature film Shakti, Sanjay Kapoor told
Asian Academy of Film & TVs Research
Centre that Karishma Kapoor is indeed an epitome
of professionalism. Brother of filmstar Anil
Kapoor and the great showman of Indian film
industry Boney Kapoor, Sanjay Kapoor said
that nobody does anybody a favour in the film
industry and one is out there entirely on
his own. Emphasising that the actors
range of performance has to be wide, he said
that how the actor plays his role is more
important than the role itself. On being asked
about his forthcoming films, he said that
currently he is acting in five films including
JP Duttas LOC. Sanjay Kapoor concluded
by disclosing that he has also accepted a
very challenging role in a feature film being
produced by Ram Gopal Varma. |
