Alumni Play Lead Roles In PYAR-KI-DHUN
Asian
Academy of Film & Television trained actresses
Swati & Hena accompanied by the Producer/Director
of the feature film Pyar-Ki-Dhun
visited their alma-mater to formally express
their gratitude to Prof. Sandeep Marwah and
others. Addressing the students Swati with
several degrees in business management , said
that there is no business like Show-business
.She added that the training she received
at AAFT was extremely, helpful to her in acting
for the camera.Hena choosing to take to acting
after studying Television Drama and Media
Arts in London, joined AAFT to receive training
in the art of verbal and non-verbal communications.
Fielding a volley of questions, Hena admitted
that initially she did suffer from the
camera-fright .She was of the opinion
that an actor has be to be above all a good
human being in his/her day to day life.In
a forthright and forceful address, the talented
film Producer/Director Samiran Das Gupta stated
that his formal training in film making and
meticulour planning helped him in completing
the production and post production work of
Pyar Ki Dhun on schedule and
to avoid wasteful expenditure.Explaining the
finer aspects of the artistic and business
angles of film-making, this creative genius
lamented that due attention to the recording
and mixing of sound which are all important
to a film, does not receive due attention
in the Indian film industry.He disclosed that
this film has been mostly shot in the most
exclusive locales of London .He also mentioned
that this is the only film in the world which
contains the scenes of the rare Millenium
night celebrations on december 31, 1999 in
London.Samiran Das Gupta was proud of the
superb overall technical quality of the visuals
and the sound track of his megaventure which
has been made possible by using the state
of the art techniques and technology.Asian
Academy is indeed proud of all of its for
illustrious alumni Swati, Hena, Nicolas and
Anita who have played lead roles in this film
along with Milind Sonam and half a dozen celebrities
including Nirmal Pande,Saeed Jaffrey, Prem
Chopra and Satish Shah. Pyar- Ki Dhun
is indeed a landmark and a milestone in the
history of Asian Academy of Film & Television.

Attracts Attention Of Film-Maker

The renowned Mumbai film Producer / Director
Jagmohan Mundra recently called on
the National Chairman of International Film
& television Research centre Prof. Sandeep
Marwah while looking for new subjects for
his films.His latest film Bawander is gripping
social commentary revolving around a real
life character Bhanwari Devi who is victim
of the crime committed against her .His films
explore social issues and examine the mysteries
of male-female relationship with finesse.
Jagmohan Mundra described IFTRC S work
as pioneering and trend setting for the film
industry.Jagmohan Mundra was accompanied by
Uday Kaushik of famous Sheela threatre of
New Delhi. |

Exhibition
Of Paintings Of Indian Artists
Asian
Academy of Film &Television has been supporting
the Indian artists by holding exhibition of
their paintings from time to time.The academy
in association with the well known Delhi based
M.E.C. Art Gallery, recently organised private
viewing of selected art works of renowned
Indian artists. The lovers of art including
Monika Mohta, Director ,External publicity,
Ministry of External Affairs , Govt of India
and the Ambassador of Norway in India H.E.
Truls Hanevold were invited to this event.Outstanding
paintings of several artists were exhibited
to the invitees. renowned artists like MF
Hussain s son Shamshad Hussain and
Subrata Kundu were also present on this occasion.

It
was indeed rare honour for the Director of
AAFT Prof. Sandeep Marwah to catch the attention
of the visiting former US President Bill Clinton
and to spend few moments in his company at
the dinner hosted by America India Foundation(AIF)
at New Delhi s Taj Palace Hotel .AIF
is committed to providing financial, technological
and managerial resouces towards helping India
realise its full potential and strengthening
the bonds between the US and India. Select
statesman, top industrialists, renowned educationists
and noted film personalities were present
on this occasion. |

On Society
The
Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting
Mr. Ramesh Bais lamented that in the absence
of a legalized code similar to one which keep
the contents of a film under check and control,
the satellite television channels are dishing
out fare which are striking at the very foundation
of the age old Indian culture and civilisation.The
Hon ble Minister was delivering valedictory
address to the students of Asian Academy of
Film & Television.Earlier welcoming the
Hon ble Minister, Prof Sandeep Marwah
said that due to its ability to impart top
of the line media education and training,
the academy has now become internationally
known.Mr. Ramesh Bais forcefully added that
to dish out unwholesome fare of sex, violence
and gore for the sake of monetary gain , in
unethical and sinful act. Reminding the film
and television producers of the tremendous
potential of the visual media of influencing
the minds and the hearts of the people he
said that this should be used for building
a happy, healthy and prosperous society.The
Hon ble Minister urged the outgoing
students to produce only responsive and responsible
films and television programmes.On this occasion
the Hon ble Minister formally released
the first music album of the talented and
budding singer Tanusha Mittal , produced with
the support of Asian Academy of Film &

Balanced Image Of Indian Politicians - Syed
Shahnwaz Hussain
Union
Minister for coal Syed Shahnwaz Hussain appealed
to the film makers and the television producers
not to paint all the politicians with the
same brush.The hon ble minister was
addressing the students of Asian Academy of
Film & Television.Referring to the
hero and the villian on
screen, Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said there
are both honest and good as well as dishonest
and bad people in the political arena.He pointed
out that each one has to proove one
s competence to suceed in any human endeavour
including the show world.Conceding the decline
in the standard of public life, the hon
ble minister appealed to the film makers to
be blanched in their presentation of the image
of the politicians.Syed Shahnawaz Hussain
forcefully added that everything is difficult
to achieve, but nothing is impossible to a
willing mind.Earlier welcoming the hon
ble minister, the former secretary in the
ministry of information and broadcasting Bhaskar
Ghose, noted theatre personality Sita Raina,
and Dr Mahesh Sharma of Kailash Hospital,
Prof Sandeep Marwah said that despite challenges
of all kind AAFT has remained steadfast in
its objectives and it has not fallen by the
wayside like many others.Admitting that the
record of the govt funded film schools is
rather bleak, Bhasker Ghose expressed his
satisfaction on over AAFT becoming one of
the finest film institutes in the world without
the govt. support.He impressed upon the students
that sincerity, dedication and hardwork pays
in life.Pointing out that there are no set
rules for acting, Sita Raina admitted that
the work of an actor is really challenging.Mentioning
that discretion is often the better part of
valour, Dr Mahesh Sharma advised the students
not to be rigid while tackling problems and
dealing with the people.Zaib Khan an illustrious
past student of AAFT, expressing his gratitude
to the academy he advised the students to
be above all a good human being for surviving

The
renowned veteran journalist and currently
the Editor of Bennett Coleman Group of Companie
s Sandhya Times described the
daily newspaper as the art-movie
and tabloid as the commercial movie
.He was speaking at a Seminar on Journalism
organised by the Asian Academy of Film &
TV.Sat Soni admitted that newspapers are facing
serious problems due to emergence of satellite
based television news channels.This coupled
with the complexities of day to day urban
life which leaves very little time for the
reader to go through the newspaper, is posing
serious challenge to the print media.Sat Soni
mentioned that while the cost of creating
the centre-page of a daily is
the highest, ironically,it is the even for
an experimenced journalist, to interview people
- particularly the celebrities.The well-known
and familiar face on the screen - Manoj raghuvanshi
was also a guest speaker at the seminar.He
mentioned several interesting incidents from
his long years in this field to explain the
duties and responsibilities of a television
journalist.Manoj Raghuvanshi emphasized the
need of prefect coordination among the member
s of the team covering of an event for television.Prof.
Sandeep Marwah also made few observations
on the subject.Answering questions put to
the distinguished journalists.Sat Soni accepted
that it is indeed unethical on the part of
a journalist to publicise criminals. |

ANAND AT AAFT
Students
of Asian Academy of Film & Television
gave a standing ovation to the well known
lyricist Santosh Anand when he consented to
render his popular song Pyar Ki Na
Toote Kadi, Pyar Kar Le Ghari Do Ghari
.The aged and not so physically fit creative
genius became highly emotional while recalling
his heydays in the film-industry.Welcoming
the veteran film personality prof. Sandeep
Marwah, mentioned about Santosh Anand
s long and fruitful association with Manoj
Kumar and music composer Lakhshmi Kant Pyare
Lal and remarked that a creative person does
not retire as long as he is mentally and physically
fit.Citing his own example, Dr D.K. Mittal
a self made exponent of fine arts and successful,
educationalist who was also presented on this
occasion, said that where there is will there
is a way. He forcefully added that one must
have a strong will to succeed in life.he was
of the view that systematic training has its
our virtue and is helpful in every human endeavour. |

MUSIC FOR SPREADING MESSAGE OF LOVE
Pointing
out to the extraordinary power of music in
influencing the mind of people,CEO Noida Mr.
Dev Dutt made a forceful plea for the use
of the potential music for spreading the message
of tolerance and love.Mr. Dev Dutt was releasing
the latest album of the devotional songs of
the singing prodigies Rajinder Kachroo and
Sevanti Sanyal at Asian Academy of Film &
Television.Later the two singers enthralled
the audience by the brilliant rendering of
several popular songs in their melodious voices.Speaking
on the occasion Prof Sandeep Marwah said that
good music irrespective of its origin, is
a treat for the ears and the mind.The well
known creative genius Ashok Soni who has been
into films, television and music industries
for several decades spoke very highly of the
professional work being done by AAFT alumni
in the industry.Later, on popular demand Ashok

RATIONAL IN YOUR JOURNALISTIC WORK RAVI SHANKAR
PRASAD
Legal
luminary and member of the parliament, Ravi
Shankar Prasad advised the television journalists
to be well read and generally well informed
for succeeding in their profession.He was
of the view that the journalist should be
impartial, balance and rational while dealing
with men and matters.Ravi Shankar Prasad was
addressing the students of Asian Academy Of
Film & Television. Welcoming the distinguished
guests, Prof. Sandeep Marwah added that it
is indeed debatable whether media should highlight
the activities of criminals and antisocial
elements or not.Well known television producer
Khalid Sultan become emotional while recalling
that as a freelance producer, he had recorded
his first ever television programme at Marwah
Films & Video Studio the early nineties.He
also mentioned that beside technical competence,total
dedication to the work is the key to success
of a film or television producer.Television
producer, Nirja Vohra who was also present
on this occasion, recalled the long hours
she had spent in the studio to grapple with
the complexities of the television production
work.She advised the students to plan their
work in as much detail as the time would permit
them to do so. |
