One university admits through a national exam, another runs its own drawing test, and a third follows a state common entrance. Fees change by course and by year, and the same degree can have a different admission route in each city.

This guide brings together 15 institutions that offer a recognised Fine Arts degree. For each one you will find the city, the degree on offer, the entrance route where we could confirm it, and the official website to check before you apply.

One note on how to read it: this is not a ranking. The colleges are listed in no order of merit, and we have not published any fee figure that we could not trace to an official source.

Table of Contents

Toggle

List of Top Fine Arts Colleges in India

1. Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai

Sir J. J. School of Art is an established art institution in Mumbai. Students considering its BFA programme should examine the available specialisations, curriculum, practical learning environment and entrance requirements.

Applicants should refer to the latest Maharashtra admission guidelines to confirm the applicable entrance examination and selection process.

How We Selected These Colleges?

A list is only as useful as the method behind it. Here is exactly what we looked for.

A recognised Fine Arts degree. Each institution offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) or an equivalent degree such as BVA, and says so on its own course pages.

A published admission route. The college must explain how it admits students: its own entrance test, a state common entrance test, or a national exam such as CUET.

An official source. Every entry points to the institution’s own website or the relevant admission authority. Third-party portals are helpful for background, but they often disagree on fees and dates, so we did not use them as proof.

Real studio training. Fine Arts is a studio subject. We looked for dedicated departments in painting, sculpture, printmaking, applied arts or art education, rather than a general programme with a single art elective.

Courses that are current. Programs must be active for the present admission cycle. Entries for courses that are discontinued will be removed at each update.

What Are the Fees of Fine Arts Colleges in India?

Fine Arts course fees in India vary depending on the institution, degree, specialisation and facilities available. Government-funded institutions and private institutions may have different fee structures, so students should compare the total cost rather than tuition alone.

For example, the BFA course fee at AAFT Noida is ₹5,62,200. For other colleges, students should refer to the latest fee notices or prospectuses instead of relying on outdated figures from third-party websites.

Before selecting a Fine Arts college, check the following expenses:

Tuition fees for the complete programme

Admission and registration charges

Studio, workshop or art material costs, where applicable

Hostel and mess charges, if required

Scholarship opportunities and applicable fee concessions

Also confirm whether the published fee is charged per semester, per academic year or for the complete course.

Which Entrance Exams Are Required for Fine Arts Admission?

Fine Arts admission requirements differ from one institution to another. Depending on the college and programme, students may need to qualify for a university entrance examination, a state-level test or an assessment that includes practical work.

Common admission routes include:

University entrance examinations: Some institutions conduct their own entrance tests for Fine Arts programmes.

State-level entrance examinations: Certain state institutions use a common entrance process for admission to art colleges.

CUET-UG and practical assessments: Some universities use CUET-UG scores along with additional practical examinations for specific programmes.

Institution-specific admission processes: Other institutions may follow their own eligibility and selection procedures.

Students should check the latest admission notice for each college because examination requirements can change by programme and academic year. Preparing for drawing, composition and other practical assessments in advance can also help applicants plan their admission journey.

What Is the Eligibility for BFA Admission After 12th?

Most Bachelor of Fine Arts programmes require students to pass Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board. However, the minimum marks, accepted streams and selection criteria vary by institution.

Before applying to a BFA college, students should check:

Whether they have completed the required qualifying examination.

The minimum aggregate marks required for admission.

Whether students from all academic streams are eligible.

Whether an entrance examination, practical test or portfolio is required.

The application deadline and documents needed for admission.

Students should confirm the specific eligibility requirements for their preferred college rather than assuming that every BFA programme follows the same criteria.

How to Choose the Best Fine Arts Course?

Choosing the best fine arts course depends on your creative interests, career goals, budget and preferred learning environment.
