Mundgod is a place to visit –Sandeep Marwah of NFTC

Mundgod 6th January, 2015: Mundgod, The Mini Tibet of India is called Doeguling Tibetan Settlement. Dharamshala could be the little Lhasa in India but Mundgod is the mini Tibet in Exile, although place does not have the head quarters of His Highness, the Honorable Dalai Lama, the political and spiritual leader of the Tibetans informed Sandeep Marwah Managing Director of NFTC-National Federation of Tourism And Transport Cooperatives of India Limited.

“Mundgod was a non-descript panchayat town in the State of Karnataka in India. Today it is the repository of Tibetan life and culture. It showcases the life style and ambitions of the Tibetan refugees and reflects the gradual transformation of a traditional society into modernity” said Marwah who was at Mundgod to receive his International Award from Prime Minister of Tibet during international convention.

The Government of Karnataka gave 4,000 acres of mostly forested land in Mundgod, near Hubli. There are four other Tibetan settlements in Karnataka. It all started in Mundgod in 1966. Today, it is the largest concentration of Tibetan refugees in the world, exceeding thirteen thousand persons. More than 40000 people visited last week on the visit of H.H. The 14th Dalai Lama.
